Galway Bay Sailing Club has a rich history dating back to 1970 when it was established in the city, initially operating from Corinthians Rugby Club, and utilizing Lough Atalia and Galway Docks as its sailing grounds. By 1972, the club had relocated to Renville in Oranmore, where it operated from a mobile home until the construction of a new clubhouse, officially inaugurated in 1980.
Over the years, Galway Bay Sailing Club has cultivated a strong fleet of cruising and racing yachts, which remain central to its activities. The club's sailing offerings have expanded to include a diverse range of dinghies, such as Optimists, Fevas, and Darts, alongside a robust 420 interest.
The cruising fleet organizes significant events throughout the season, including an extended cruising fortnight and the renowned Lamb’s Week. Cruiser racing takes place on Wednesday evenings, with weekend races contributing to The King of the Bay award, a prestigious accolade in the region.
Many boats and crews from the club participate in WIORA and other national-level regattas. Crews have also participated in the Round Ireland Race, and this year plan to compete in the Rolex Middle Sea Race.
Socially, the club's function room and bar are vibrant hubs hosting numerous events throughout the sailing season, complemented by new training rooms and boat storage facilities.

Galway Bay Sailing Club warmly welcomes visitors of all ages and skill levels to experience the thrill of sailing against the stunning backdrop of Galway Bay. The club has proudly hosted numerous successful regional and national regattas, showcasing the beauty of the bay.
Each sailing season offers a variety of opportunities, including Friday evening sailing sessions open to non-members during the summer. Whether a novice or seasoned sailor, the club provides a diverse range of training programs tailored for adults and juniors. After a day on the water, members and visitors can unwind at the clubhouse, enjoying breathtaking views over Galway Bay.
With its rich history, stunning location, and inclusive ethos, Galway Bay Sailing Club continues to be a cherished destination for sailors and enthusiasts alike.
