A Hub of Maritime Excellence and Community Spirit
Nestled on the stunning west coast of Ireland, Mullaghmore Sailing Club (MSC) is a vibrant community dedicated to fostering a love for sailing and maritime activities. Established in 1963, MSC has grown from a small dinghy and cruiser club into a cornerstone of the local community, celebrating 60 years of sailing tradition and camaraderie.
A Rich History and Commitment to Sailing
Originally known as Mullaghmore Yacht Club, MSC was founded by Paddy Malone. Over the decades, the club grew in membership and today boasts a modern clubhouse opened in 2000. Currently the club emphasises junior sailing to nurture a new generation of sailors and also has a competitive cruiser summer racing series.
Programs and Membership
MSC offers a wide range of activities for all ages and skill levels. For juniors, the club runs six weeks of summer sailing courses, providing young enthusiasts with a comprehensive introduction to the sport in a safe and fun environment. The junior program, along with the Cara Na Mara initiative for younger children, ensures that sailing skills are developed from an early age.
Adults are not left out, with summer courses designed to teach sailing under the guidance of certified instructors. Membership at MSC offers numerous benefits, including discounted course fees, access to club events, and the use of club keelboats under certain conditions.
Events and Regattas
Mullaghmore Regatta is steeped in a rich history, going back to 1885 and beyond, when Greencastle Yawls, trawlers and boats “under ten tons” raced before the day’s sport was concluded with a donkey race. While there are no donkey races these days, MSC's calendar is still filled with exciting events that foster a sense of community and competition. The highlight of the year is the annual Camile Mullaghmore Regatta, which attracts boats from across the region. This event showcases the club's competitive spirit and organisational prowess. In 2024, the MSC will host the Fireball Ulster Championship. This thrilling two-day event will attract the best talent from across the country, showcasing the exciting and highly competitive Fireball class.
The club also hosts various social events, such as regatta dinners, BBQs, Art & Photography exhibitions and themed parties, ensuring there is always something happening at MSC. These events not only enhance the social fabric of the club but also raise awareness about maritime activities and ocean conservation in the wider community.

Community and Conservation
MSC is deeply committed to environmental sustainability. The club's efforts were recognized with Platinum Certificates from Sailors for the Sea, highlighting its dedication to preserving marine environments. Additionally, MSC collaborates with local artists and photographers to celebrate the natural beauty of the Irish coastline, further integrating the club into the cultural life of Mullaghmore.

Sailing for All
From experienced sailors to beginners looking to explore the world of sailing, Mullaghmore Sailing Club welcomes all. With a friendly atmosphere, comprehensive training programs, and a robust calendar of events, MSC is the perfect place to develop sailing skills and become part of a thriving maritime community.
